new hobby.

it's quiet around here. bloglines is still crazy so i am still in a state of annoyance (lost the 400+ subscribers and those that re-signed up get posts that are 6 months old!). that being said - there is some fiber related activity around here. but it isn't knitting.

i know i spoke the words "i will never spin" many, many times. and here i am with a wheel and quickly accumulating fiber stash.

my new wheel is actually a floor model from village yarn and tea. so it wasn't brand new but i still really like it. although i can eventually see myself trading up if the habit sticks, for now it is just fine. it is the louet victoria in beech.

if you have have me as a friend on ravelry you may have already seen some of my handspun. most of it is spun and stashed but one particular fiber had to be knit right away.

cooper really loves the pumpkin fields forever BFL from moonlightbaker (i see she has some more of this colorway up now - you better go snag it!)

my first handspun socks - i am so excited! granted the yarn is by no means fingering weight - more of a dk - but they will make great autumn house socks. i knit them on size 1's so they will be nice and dense. a littly bumpy but i can live with that!

i absolutely love the barberpole effect. that is what sold me on spinning to begin with!

so of course now i am constantly searching for fiber! here are some recent acquisitions

targhee in night sky all spun up and BFL in spook and frankenstein from emma aka dragonfiber

crown mountain corriedale pencil roving in stonehenge

merino from frecklefacefibers in the goblin colorway (this will remain in the stash until i get a little better - i hear merino can be a bit tricky).

there is more on the way too :)

ok - that is all i have for now. back to spinning....

The goblin is so pretty! There must have been a new delivery of dragonfibers at VYT, or did you get it off her etsy shop. I did buy some stonehenge this weekend, got it all spun up and plied. So pretty!

I can't wait to see you and give you your OFFF fiber! Thursday at VYT?

Girl, you will never have a reason to trade up. The Victorias are BEAUTIFUL! And such a great wheel. A few people at Yarn School last spring had them and just loved them. Maybe a second wheel someday, but you hang on to Victoria.

I love DaisyMay on etsy - she has some great stuff (that I may have purchased before I was even dressed this morning...)

You know you are an inspiration! Talk about diving in with two feet! Your spinning looks awesome! Can't believe you are already knitting socks out of your own handspun!!!!

Wow! I'm so impressed with your yarn. The yarn and your socks are very pretty. Did you spin the blue/brown/green yarn too? I especially love the colors in that one. :-)

Nice work! My Kromski is simply starved for attention. I am not giving her nearly the time she deserves.

i've said that before too. i'll never spin. i'll never felt. i'll never do a lace shawl. all it takes is time for those "nevers" to become "i haves". ( i still have yet to spin, but have been dabbling in some drop spindling)

I love the look of handspun yarn also and have spent a fortune on Etsy buying it.

I saw someone using a Louet Victoria at a local craft fair and she got me and husband sold on it. Small enough for a NYC apartment. I went to Rhinebeck and ended up trying different wheels and fell in love with the Majacraft Rose. A wheel that will never need upgrading. Unfortunetly the only one they had was a floor model with two nicks on it. I did not want to pay full price on a floor model. I think I would ahve considered it if she gave me a discount.

I wish you lots of fun on your wheel. The Victoria is gorgeous! Mine should be arriving this week from www.woolery.com. I don't know how to spin, but i can't wait.
