the fireplace reveal

AFTER

getting a good shot of my new tile was hard. thankfully my errors don't show in the picture! the tile is even in most areas, but the area closest to the new glass doors (love them!) is really wonky. for something that is supposed to be contemporary, it should be really flat and even. it isn't. i am pretending it is. for sanity's sake.

the whole thing isn't quite complete. there will be a mantel in a dark brown that will go across the top. and i have to move the hearth (good luck to me) and give it a fresh coat of alabaster paint. the tiles came from oceanside glasstile. the tiles are all white or clear. some iridescent, some beach glass. very lovely!

here is the before shot if you were wondering what it used to be. very 70's. not horrible, but not liked.
BEFORE

the airbrushed faux concrete stones were too much for me. some probably prefer them to what i did, but that is ok. i love the new look.

as for knitting, ellen came over last night to watch grey's with me and remind me how to mattress stitch. i have had the pieces for this baby sweater completed nearly 3 weeks. it is time to wrap it up!

i saw this peaches and creme colorway over at continue in kind a short while ago. within 5 minutes of seeing it i had purchased a cone for myself on ebay (we don't have a lot of sources for peaches and creme on the west coast besides wal-mart). it knit up so fast and i still have a lot left.

ok back to seaming!

oh my god, oh my god!! That looks great!!!!!! I was waiting to see pics and when they came up I was so thrilled. Looks AWESOME!!!

I just started a lace project and I had to cast on 437 stitches. I used all my fun 'good to be girl' stitch markers. Good thing I have so many! Thank you again!!!

I love your new fireplace! I also love the yarn for the baby sweater. I feel your pain about the Peaches & Creme--I can't believe how rare it is out here. It almost makes me want to go to Wal-Mart to check out what they have.

Wow the fireplace looks great! Don't worry no one but you will ever notice anything about it except that it looks so much better then before. I love thos colors for a baby. I get so sick of pastels all the time. I think babies look so much better in colors!

WOW! The before picture is nice but the finished fireplace is AMAZING!

So, how much yarn will it take for you to come over and do mine ;)?

The yarn store I work for has Peaches and Cream and is in the NW. It is Knot Another Hat (www.knotanotherhat.com). We can also do special orders for any of the colorways in the cone or the ball size, which walmart won't do.

Everything you do turns out beautiful - and the fireplace is no exception. It is lovely. You should be very proud! You also pick color ways that I would never lean towards and they always turn out wonderful. Makes me look at yarn with new eyes.

Long time lurker, first time commenter. Love your fireplace remodel!

I wanted to let you know you can purchase Peaches and Cream directly from the manufacturer. They have something like 120 colors. They told me no one carries all of them. Their site address is:

I LOVE your fireplace tile job! I can't imagine anyone preferring the old 80's style one - faux concrete? ick.

The fireplace is fantastic. My yarn would not do it justice, but I do have some handwoven hemp or jute or some such fabric, unbleached, it's very gold and I think it would look fabulous. I'll tuck it into my knitting bag and bring it in to Village on Saturday.

I think that the person who does the work is more critical of the finished result than others who see it afterwards. When I painted my walls I thought my cutting was way off and wiggly, but my mother came over and wanted to know how I kept the lines so straight! Lol.

I really do like the after of the fireplace as it is much, much better than those faux rocks.

Elmore Pisgah is great! I have never seen an in-real-life store that carried their Peaches & Creme except for Wal-Mart and they only seem to carry the same 15 or so colorways at every store. It's a shame when there are over 100 from EP!
