bread = sandwich = paris

the brioche turned out really good. as i mentioned before i used the recipe from ina'a "barefoot contessa paris" book. it wasn't difficult at all. didn't rise as perfect as hers, but my oven doesn't distribute heat well. that's ok by me, the finished product still tasted wonderful! my mom has been a fan of ina's since her very first cookbook. it took me awhile, but now i am completely sold. her recipes always turn out and are fairly simple. just good food.

i had two loaves and wasn't quite sure what i wanted to do with them. bread pudding? french toast? cheddar and chutney sandwiches? and then it hit me, just a few pages ahead of the brioche recipe was the recipe for croque monsieur.

remember jan?

our first night in paris last october was spent at this little cafe down the street from our apartment. my friend jan and i enjoyed a dinner much like this, croque monsieur with a green salad.

although brioche isn't the traditional base, it was delicious anyways and brought back lovely memories! if only i were there now!

bonjour!

The brioche looks lovely! I'm going to take your recommendation and see if I can't get my hands on a copy of the BCP book!

Happy Eating...
(or more accurately, Bon Appétit!)

I made the Croque for the first time last year and oh my goodness- if Mik liked ham, we would be having it at least once a week.

Did you go to La Poulain? Did I totally botch that name? The other bakery that Ina talks about that does the big P on the boules?

Ah, Paris.
Amy, you might enjoy a few of the pictures I put up this week.
I did a little photo journal of our trip to Paris, Florence and Rome.

I loved Paris most of all.

Love, love, love the Barefoot Contessa. I have never had anything I made from her books go badly! The "Perfect Roast Chicken in her "Barefoot Contessa at Home" book is truly the easiest impressive dish you can whip up for company. (This from a 90% vegetarian!!!) How cool that you had great luck with the brioche-the Barefoot Contessa in Paris is the only of her 5 books that I don't have, but its at Costco now for $18.99...guess I'll head at tomorrow and complete the collection! Thanks for sharing the pictures!

The barefoot contessa books are hands down the cookbooks I use most often. Your bread looks delish.

I am a big Ina fan too. I watch her everyday, but my husband hates the nervous giggle she has. She just aired the episode with those sandwiches and I made them last Thursday with some left over ham from Easter, delicious!

love ina, she lives an enviable life, doesn't she? sometimes i wish she would wear something different though. you could maybe toast the bread and put nutella on top, or just really good jam, and you can make truly incredible french toast with it. the possibilities are endless my dear! enjoy!
