we interrupt this regularly scheduled blog for totally non-knitting related news

recalled cat and dog food

just an fyi if you haven't heard. this is a big one and i myself had a bit of a panic attack this morning when i saw the brand of food i feed my kitties on a recall list. thankfully, i don't feed them the cuts and gravy style and it isn't one of the specific types mentioned, so i think we are ok, but they will be going off of wet food for a couple days until things are more clear. i know many of you probably feel as strongly as i do about my little guys so i thought i would share.

I had fed my cat food from that list, too, and he was throwing up around the same time. I took him to the vet; his kidneys are failing. I spent this morning feeling guilty for feeding him something that is killing him. It could be a coincidence but I find that hard to believe (I had used the food as a supplement to his regular food and only in February: right smack in the middle of the recall time period).

I hope your cats are not affected.

I also feed my cats the dry form of one of the ones on the list. I've never fed them the wet food. Tempted to go back to the friskys.I'm thinking about it.

I've seen this thing A LOT. I switched my cats from Science Diet (mainly because of animal testing that they do now) but also because of health reasons. I now have them on a holistic diet. Yes. It is more expensive...but my heart and mind tells me to do this because it is best for them. A lot of the food companies on this list do animal testing and if you read the ingredients you will notice that most everything is filler and non nutritious.

I freaked out about this yesterday, but found out that I don't feed my cats from the recall list. Whew... Glad your kitties are ok.

Thanks for the post. You know I just finished rescuing Rufus from Science Diet and the resulting hospital stay, and was really worried when I heard about this recall. Thank goodness I'd choosen a stinkie goodness foil pac food made by Mars.
