the yarn that could have killed me

i don't know what more to say without this become the longest post ever, but i was in a car accident this weekend on the way home from picking up the loaner mini cooper (have i mentioned the dealership is 40+ miles away?). i am ok, just a sore back, along with my friend who was riding with me. the car took it pretty well (we were rear ended on the freeway), still driveable, but something was rubbing against the tire so we had it towed back to the dealership. i am again without a car.
and you know what? the major reason i was in that time and place when the accident occured is because i went to get socks that rock from the madrona fiber retreat. it was so close to the dealership where i was picking up the loaner i couldn't resist. so ulitmately, my 3 skeins of socks that rock nearly killed me (ok that is bit dramatic and i don't really think that, but it does make for an interesting story).
and to start this week off on a terrible note as well, this morning i got a call from the dealership saying that the damage to my car was in fact NOT the transmission, but rodent damage not covered by my warranty. i nearly fainted. thank goodness they have run into this before and told me that my insurance would cover it. they were right. so far the damage is at $1400. now comes the challenge of figuring out how to prevent this in the future. do you get that? rats. in. my. car. GROSS!
i did finish a new trekking sock though. and instead of casting on for the second, i started a new pair with the car accident socks that rock (shown above - color tidepool).

omg, do you listen to Car Talk on NPR? A woman was talking about rats in her radiator the last episode!! Yuck!
Glad you are ok!
Okay, I have heard of many different things but never rodent damage in a car? Well, in the upholstery but not in the motor compartment.
Happy to hear that you are okay though.
Oh my! I’m so glad to hear that you are ok! I have never heard of rodent damage. That’s just too weird. I’m interested in knowing what they suggest you do to avoid it happening again. Wow.
I love the new sock color. I’m sorry that it resulted in you being in an accident, however. I guess you will have a story to tell every time you wear those socks, that’s for sure!
I listened to the web archive of Car Talk this morning, and they didn't seem to think that rodent damage was uncommon at all. There were two rodent segments on this episode and why haven't we heard about it before? I hope that everything works out, and this Trekking sock is lovely.
OMG! I'm glad you're ok, sorry about the rodent damage, at least it wasn't the transmission.
I did end up getting 2 skeins of STR after I saw you . . . and a bunch of roving. yikes!
Killer sock yarn, that does make for a good story!
So glad you are okay!!!
Hmm another case of the attack rodents.
Last year our insured had squirrels attack the wiring in his car, not once, not twice, but yes THREE times. On the third time he finally started using musk. Good old fox pee works amazingly well. It comes in the liquid form, for easy application. He has yet to call back.
Also, I love the tidepool sock, that color, really hate to say, rocks.
Cheers and happy knitting,
Bonnie Beer Bitch
Goodness, glad to hear you are okay. Accidents are so scary and can really traumatize you - as can the thought of rodents in your car! We used to keep a car in a detached garage and mice caused a bunch of damage toit - not to mention they stunk it up!
I so glad to hear that you are OK.
Amy
Glad you're OK! Those socks better rock now.
The rodent thing happened to our friends too and you're right - gross!
Okay, I have a rodent story for you. My dryer was not working last year and my father told me there were only a couple of things that could happen to a dryer (belt, motor, blah, blah, blah). The repair man came while I was at work and my hubby was home. I found the bill for $100 and it read "rodent removal". A ground squirrel or other small fuzzy had crawled in the back and clogged it up. Yuck!
Oh, Amy! What an awful weekend, but I'm very glad to hear you're okay. Your new yarn and socks look great, though. At least they helped bring a little niceness to your weekend.
It's good to hear you're OK. Hopefully now that your car is figured out the repair will be done quickly.
Pretty color of STR!
Oh my! I am so glad you are okay.
Let the pretty sock yarns console you ;)
i'm glad you're ok. what a frightful thing. but now i've got an idea for a sequel to "snakes on a plane."
"rats in the car!"
ewww.
i love the trekking sock. i've been looking for that color without success
What the heck is going on with you, girl? This has got to stop! I'm glad you are ok, that must have been terrifying. A friend of mine in Mukilteo had rodent damage in her car a few weeks ago. This is scaring me!
Hey Amy -- OH my god! Rats? Rats?
I've never posted on here before. Cool blog.
I'm so glad you are OK. What a lousy few weeks! Suppose your year will now be disaster proofed, eh?
Chin up kiddo. :-)
Angie

Oh my goodness, I'm glad you're okay! Take care of yourself, and watch out for those rats! Yuck!
Rats in the car are much better than moths in the car.
Sweet Cracker Sandwich, girl - too much excitement and weirdness for one day...
So glad you're ok, so sorry for all the inconvenience. And rodent damage to cars is new to me...
Good God, Amy! That is too much excitement. I'm glad you're ok - ok enough to blog, at least. I have no idea what to say about your rodent issues, except that there is a Mini Mouse joke in there somewhere.
Holy crap! Glad you and your friend are okay!
