future projects

some of you have asked what i have planned to knit in 2007, too much is the answer!

first off is a pattern i have been eyeing for some time now. a new 2 color noni bag. i am going to make the one in the back (shown in blue/black). the colors i chose are brown and green. i am not settled on the green yet (see pic, it may be a bit too bright). cute huh? i love the noni patterns.

i picked up the noni pattern at a sale yesterday. let's just say that me and the lfp knit girls (the group of us that goes to bainbridge island every few months and meets on tuesdays to knit) got up VERY early and headed downtown to get in line. i think we arrived a wee bit early (before 8 a.m.) so we popped in macrina bakery for a very yummy pastry and coffee. when we were done we ended up not being first in line, but still in the first 6. the deal is, from 9-11 a.m. all the yarn in the store was 30% off. so we waited in the cold for almost an hour.

i think i did the most damage. i was doing ok until i found the noni pattern. then i had to add that and the cascade 220 to my pile. in the end though i had a project in mind for each of the yarns i bought. a rarity for me. the biggest score was silk garden lite. my friend katy and i didn't believe it existed so we felt like we found the holy grail of yarn. it is destined for socks. i also picked up some claudia's handpainted and some hand maiden lady godiva for a new clapotis. oh and at another sale a few days back i picked up a bit of lorna's worsted, yum! so soft!

i'd show pics but to keep myself from crying over how much i spent, i promptly shoved it all in the yarn dresser (yes shoved, it is too full). and it made me start to think about needing to protect my very expensive stash. it is an old wood dresser in an old 70's condo. i think the cedar balls i have in it may not be enough to do the trick. your thoughts? are cedar balls really enough? i could never go to plastic containers to store my yarn (no room and hard to get into) but i could stick the yarn in ziploc bags and then put them in the dresser. that is the direction i am leaning. of course doing so means that the dresser won't be big enough because i can't cram the way i do now. maybe i should use those vacuum packed space saver bags or the seal a meal thing ;)

anyways, i am back to knitting. just a little bit for now (ok i made a whole mitten last night - they are telling me snow is coming!!!!). i know that certain patterns tweak my arm so i am sticking with stockinette or rib for now.

and finally a funny picture of trouble, i mean cooper. i think it is too funny how cats paw at water before they drink it. but not so funny when they do it in my own glass and then proceed to pull it over so they can lap up the water without having to stick their head in. fun!

I had never seen the Noni pattern - and I think that it is just lovely! Can't wait to hear your opinions, etc. as you get started on it.

THIRTY PERCENT OFF? lucky, lucky girl! I'd totally get up early for that as well... sounds like a successful shopping day...

I, too, am struggling with the yarn storage thing - I've got it in drawers and tote bags all over the place. I'd like one central location, but space is an issue.

Cooper is a cutie...

that comment was from me. I have no idea why Blogger wants to pretend like it doesn't know me... it looked like I was logged in!

LOVE that Noni pattern! Can't wait to see the finished result. And if you can bear to face up to the damage you did to your pocketbook, I'd love to see pics of your other purchases (esp. that Silk Garden!).

Tami and I were just saying last week that we should plan a field trip with you to Bainbridge...let us know the next time your group goes and we'd love to tag along! Regardless, though, the four of us still need to get together sometime soon. What works for you?

Love the bag, can't wait to see the finished result! How much handmaiden did you buy for the clapotis?

i have a cat just like yours! her name is maggie, and she will usually try to stick her head into the glass as far as possible before knocking it over, because she thinks she won't get in as much trouble that way.

and burt, one of my other cats (i've got three!) is especially fond of chocolate milk, and so will knock over full glasses of it to get at the goodness.

Well, here's what I think. If you vaccum seal the yarn into bags, you can fit twice as much in that dresser!

Lynne stole my idea. Totally go with the vacuum bags. My friend did that and she can get so much yarn stored so easy AND when she opens it up she says it just fluffs up beautifully.

Regarding storage... here's what I've done.

Large projects (sweaters, afghans, etc.) go into Hefty One Zip 2.5 gallon storage bags. They are the perfect size to hold a sweater's worth of yarn (including husband sized sweaters). If you use a ball winder to make the yarn into yarn cakes, then they stack in there all nice and neat, too.

Smaller projects go in Ziplock one gallon freezer bags. These hold a scarf or sock perfectly, including patterns printed on regular copy paper if you're willing to let it curve just a little at the bottom.

I bought hangers with clips on the bottom, and all those plastic bags get hung in the closet. If you get those hanging closet extentions, you can double the space available. They should also fit fairly well in drawers or totes or on shelves.

I also have drawers for sock yarn and some others that I don't have specific projects for yet, but so far, this works out nicely.

Oh, and the Ziplock XL storage bags work out pretty nicely for large quantities of yarn... I have my Cotton-Ease stash in those.

That's a great bag! No wonder you couldn't resist. Cooper is a cutie - makes me miss my kitty and his antics.

I don't think the green will be too bright once it is next to the brown and felted. Do you have enough for a swatch? I can't wait to see it!

I love that Noni pattern too! Go figure:) I can't wait to see you knitting it up! Can I just tell you that all the kitten pictures are making me want to get one...and that is just plain crazy! Jesse would have none of that...he's getting older and doesn't want a roomate. They are just too cute though!

this is random, seeing as how i just stumbled across your blog one day and have been reading it ever since, but our cats are identical. and the whole water thing? we have to had lids on our cups because they will try to drink whatever we have.

and i do enjoy your crafts. i knit, and i wish i had more time to devote to it. all the creative stuff seems to always get pushed to the backburner...
