i'm in love again

remember this hat? i cast on 3 times for it last year and never concentrated enough to get very far before making a mistake. i decided it would be a good hat for my trip so i put the effort into it this time around and it is going well. and i love knitting it. it has been awhile since i have loved a project on the needles. liked, yes, but this i love. it must be something to do with short rows because i also really loved lady eleanor.

i am also plugging along on my 2nd ribbed sock. i need to get it off the needles before my trip. i think i should be able to complete both items before i leave.

went to the dr. today and got a prescription for ambien. i plan on taking it for the long flight. anyone had any experience with it? the side effects are a bit freaky and i heard that if for some reason you don't fall asleep you can hallucinate. lovely! the other problem is i have to take motion sickness meds too. my dr. doesn't think mixing them is a great idea, but says i should be ok. i'll ask the pharmacist tomorrow. mixing drugs scares me, even though both will be low dosage. if i can be knocked out for most of the trip it would be the best thing ever! seriously.

did i mention i'll miss 2 weeks of grey's while out of the country? omg. what is a girl to do? you know i am making backup plans.

and because of the immense pressure :) - i will have a few sets of grey's markers at the sale - 3 markers for $10. be aware, they aren't super sophisticated, just paper lacquered onto fimo. but people claim they want them anyways :)

have you noticed how active knit blogland is again? must be the change of the seasons. if only i could keep up, there is so much out there that i want to explore, but right now just don't have the time.

i'll post sale details tomorrow.

Lovely WIP! What pattern & yarn are you using?

I know what you mean about motion sickness! Ugh. I had to fly last month and didn't take anything at all meds wise for it (and believe me I am very prone). What helped was eating apple slices before hand (they have something in them that helps) and lots of ginger ale on the plane. That and make sure that little air vent blows right on you. At least it gives the illusion of fresh air. Lol.

Have a safe flight and a good trip!

what a gorgeous hat! It's looking great!

I prefer ativan for flights. it calms me down and knocks me out.

I took ambien once. It seemed to work pretty well. My dad also had to take it for a little while and my mom said that one night he was so far gone that she was a little worried and woke him up to find out where he had put them, just in case. She said that he didn't want to tell her and acted like he thought she was going to steal them. That is not normal behavior for him. I don't think he's taken it since.

Also, that hat is looking gorgeous! I keep meaning to knit that. There's just not enough time in the day.

My best friend used to take it for nights she had a hard time sleeping, but stopped after she had one really WEIRD night of hallucinations. She spent a good deal of it on the computer talking to me on AIM, and she kept talking about "the little men helping her type". It was the most odd but FUNNY thing ever. It got dangerous though, because she said later she went downstairs, and the little men were helping her then too, but she almost fell.
I love that hat you're working on!

I have a friend (a nurse aesthetician) who swears by the magnetic bracelets and ear patches for motion sickness. Maybe you could look into those?

Great hat! I will have to get your help on short rows. I have attempted a toe-up sock and they are everywhere! I'm getting the hang of it.
Have a great trip and e-mail me when you are back in town.

Skip the Ambien and go straight for the Xanex. Unless there's some reason you can't! Even Xanex doesn't knock me out for very long, there's no way I'd try Ambien for flying.

I think Ambien is a fine med to take. I'm a PA and prescribe it all of the time. Usually people run into trouble if they take it when they don't have time to allow themselves 8 hrs to sleep, which is how long it will work. If you're very worried, just try 1/2. In fact, try it one night at home first. Then you know you won't get too goofy on your flight. Have a nice trip.
I missed out on the darn Grey's markers!! Hope you make more :)

I took Ambien for a short time and had no troubles with it. I've heard the horror stories too, though. I think Angie's suggestion to try it one night home is a good one.

I know what you mean when you say you LOVE something that is on the needles. It's like a really good book. You don't want to put it down, you want to find out what happens, but you don't really want to finish. That hat is georgeous! The colors, mmmm. Can I ask where you got the pattern?
