counting down.
i am still in my pajamas, but wearing my new joseph seibel shoes in hopes of breaking them in around the condo. they aren't the cutest shoes, but function before fashion is the name of the game right now. i leave in 3 days. lists are laying all over my place, what to buy, what to pack and what to see. last night and this afternoon were spent surfing the internets looking for the can't miss places in paris. trying to pronounce things in french (hah! that was an item that didn't get marked off the to-do list (learn french)).
i spent a lot of time reading these blog entries by seattle bon vivant. and of course checking out chocolate and zucchini too. i came across an article (now lost, but notes were taken) on chocolate and tea in paris. i know i will never make it to all the places i have discovered online, but feel better having noted some of the top spots. and they all have to do with chocolate, pastries, yarn and tea. :) and even better, most are within walking distance of our apartment (did i ever mention that we rented an apartment for our stay!!). it is a wonderful thing that my traveling companion and i enjoy so much of the same things (hi jan!!!!).
as for london, i think there is less that i have to see. i am pretty comfortable winging it there more than paris. there are some tea shops noted and of course places like harrods and portobello market are a must, but i think with no language barrier it will be a bit easier. i am really looking forward to partaking in the afternoon tea rituals there. and we are staying at a sweet bed & breakfast near notting hill.
this is my first big trip and i am excited to see a part of the world that i have long dreamt about! to be able to eat macarons and canneles in paris is going to be a memorable moment in my life (oh how i have tried to make my own). sipping hot chocolate and eating croissants. taking a night cruise on the river seine. paris!
the hat is oh so close (pattern is linked in the post after). the socks? i tried, and although i am turning the heel, i am sure they will go on stitch holders. i picked up some new trekking for the trip.
if you don't hear from me between now and wednesday, i'll catch up with all of you the week of the 23rd! if i get a chance to blog while away, i'll do so. in the meantime, i'll be trying to practice the art of packing light. au revoir mes amis!

You will have such an amazing time. London is one of the best cities in the world, at least out of those I've visited.
I'm such a dork. I had that pattern already saved in my pattern files. Are you using the Ami-Ami?
Have a wonderful trip!!!
I am so excited for you- I would say that I couldn't be more excited if I were going myself, but I'm just not that selfless. I know you're going to have such a great time in both cities, even if you just sit in cafes and drink tea and eat pastries- the ambience of both alone are just wonderful.
Bon voyage!
bon voyage! amuses-toi bien!
have a wonderful time.
Have fun! Are you going with a friend? Family? Can't wait to see pictures.
Have a great time!
London is wonderful. I know you'll love it.
I hope to get to Paris before I die!
Take lots of pictures!!
au revoir!
We are ready for our BIG adventure!!!

Bon Voyage! Have a fabulous vacation & thank you so much for the stitch markers! I'm only sad I was on vacation & missed your sale! Oh well, I'm excited to see your new designs in November.
I hope you read this before you go! You have to visit this lovely yarn store in London, called Loop. It's on Cross Street in Islington. If you take the tube or bus to Angel/Islington. Get off on Upper Street, walk north about 500m and Cross Street is on your right. Loop is about 200 metres down on the right. It's small but very cool and Islington is a lovely place to wander.
I also highly recommend the Musee D'Orsay in Paris.
Have a great trip.
I hope you have an amazing trip. I still have many fun memories of visiting both places. How fun that you are staying in an apartment. I can't wait to see all your pictures & hear about your trip. ;-)
I'm sure you will have an awesome time! London was great when I went a couple years ago. So much fun!
Just thought I'd let you know that my Grey's markers arrived in the mail today!! They are too cool for school.
Have fun on your trip - drink lots of hot chocolate for me!
One of my favorite things to do in a new city the first day is to take the "hop on hop off" tour bus. it can be very helpful as far as figuring out the layuot of the city, as well as allowing you to see everything important first, and then you can return and get off the bus at the sites you really want to see. London and Paris are huge, and the must see places sometimes are quite far apart. Some people hate the idea of that bus, but I am telling you, I loved the hop on bus! The Tube in London was always down - we ended up cabbing in London, metro in Paris.
Must see in London - Tower of London! The history is amazing. Also Princess Di's house, where all the flowers were left. The Globe theater. Tons of fun party boats on the river. And of course the obvious - palaces, and hyde park.
Paris must see - Versaille if you can get out there. Top of the Eiffel Tower. Sacre Couere - the view is beautiful as well. Napoleans apts in the Louvre. The eiffel tower at night.
Someone gave me the tip about how to take the tube/metro - which you might already know, but it helped me - to figure out what line to take, you have to find your destination, and then look at the very last stop on that line for the name of the "line". that is how you find out which one to take.
Have a great time! I love London!
I just took my dream trip to Paris earlier this year. Two things I highly recommend - Sainte Chappelle. The upstairs will take your breath way. And for the best Italian food (yes, Italian) go to Fuxia, on Rue St. Honore. I don't know the cross street, but it's in a little nook of restaurants behind sort of a business area. I know there is a Beguine salon nearby - so that may help you find it. ENJOY your trip!
Just thought I'd let anyone out there know that they have perused Paris, looked around London, and have full suitcases to show for the trip!
Last seen walking past Big Ben on sunday night, a little bedraggled by the rain.
Was great to see you again Amy....... Maltesers RULE!!
