japanese dollar store
while checking out knitterista awhile back i came across her entry about bento boxes. which then led me to one of my new fav sites, cooking cute. how adorable are those bento boxes?
well it just so happens that my friend i recently got back in touch with is a japanese teacher and suggested we make a trip to the japanese dollar store. oh my. what fun! look what i came back with!!

and of course i had to pick up some presentation goodies like fun aluminum foil and liners.

i have yet to use the bento box though. i work from home so i don't have any reason to pack a lunch. yeah i knew this when i bought it but i had to have it. the bento box fascinates me. my friend explained a little history to me and it is pretty cool. i am sure at some point in my life i'll have a commuter job again so i'll save it for those days (although i hope they don't come anytime soon!).
i will be off to minnesota for the work week on sunday. i don't think i will be able to post during that time, so if i don't get a chance to post before i leave, have a great week and i'll look forward to updating you with my adventures when i get back. i had some fabulous tips come in from you guys on what to do and see (including yarn stores of course!). mall of america here i come!

So cute. Why can't there be a Japanese dollar store in my neck of the woods? Have a great time in MN!
What fun goodies!
Have a good time on your trip!
so cute and clever!
5 minutes ago I had no inking that there were such things as Japanese Dollar Stores... now I am fervently wishing I had access to one!
travel safe and enjoy your trip!
what is this Japanese Dollar Store you speak of? ...and how the heck do i get one?? lol.
seriously, though. I will now be on the hunt for one. such cute things!!
jealous... yeah, me.
.♥.
I may have said this already, but the Yarnery in St. Paul and Needlework Unlimited in Minneapolis are my favorites. One could easily spend hours in either one. Have fun!
PLEASE share where that Japanese dollar store is!
Yes, please tell us where the Japanese Dollar Store is - that bento box is adorable.
Amy, your new acquisitions are so lovely and fun! Love the colors and patterns. You're not talking about the Daiso shop in Alderwood Mall are you? Although not everything is a $1 there, it's SO cheap, it's outrageous, with cute-cute stuff (I sound like a blasted ad! sheesh). I think I spent a good hour rummaging through there the first time. I guess everyone wants to know, Amy...so spill it. ;~)
Enjoy your weekend. xo Anjo
PS.. I adore your ruffled, ironed scarf. It's beautiful!
anjo is right, it is the daiso shop at alderwood mall. my stuff was almost all a dollar, except the actual bento box was $3 i think. it is right next to the sears store. :)
Have fun in Minnesota! I am so jealous of your bento box :)
Goodies are so cute! We have many japenese stores around and now I'm inspired to venture on in! The bento box is so cute and you are right - when the moment comes you'll be prepared! Have a safe trip!
I'm so freakin' jealous. Non of our Asian markets have any bentos, let alone, dollar store prices. Very very cute, girl! Enjoy! You will love it!
What a great friend and store -- what's the name of it (I'd love to check it out when visiting family)? Have a good trip!
Is this the place?

I want to go! Maybe I should go now?????
I want to go to a Japanese Dollar Store, too! IF I send you $20 plus shipping, will you shop for me?
My sister recently turned me onto Cooking Cute and I am addicted! I have begun making Bento lunches for my husband. I have been finding a lot great Bento accessories in those Japanese dollar stores.
Sob! We don't have Japanese Dollar Stores in Cleveland! You wouldn't want to buy and mail me a bento box would you? I'd prepay (I'd even throw in a knitting lagniappe for the bother!)
You always find the coolest things. Hope you're having a wonderful trip!
Hope you had a lovely time in Minnesota! I love that bento box. It's too cute - how could anyone pass it up? There's always picnics if you need an excuse to use it!
Ohh, I LOOOVE Daiso! I only wish there were more stores in the U.S.
You've found some great stuff. Now I want to go back there right now and pick up some more sparsely--English-labeled goodies!
