i iron wool

i'm not sure if i mentioned that i knit up one of the ribbon scarves from handknit holidays this last week. i used the misti alpaca sport weight in a mauvey pink. i intentionally knit the smaller size for fear i would run out of yarn (not even close, i barely used over 1 ball and i had 2). i had seen tami's version of the scarf awhile back and loved it. it was pretty short, but with the ruffles, all she had to do was cross it and it held it's place around her neck. however, when i completed it, i wasn't happy with how the edges curled up. it looked much like ruffles from scarf style, which i already have. i wanted this to look more bell like (that is what the picture in the book looks like to me). so here is the before

and here it is after i ironed the edge

i love it, it has a very romantic quality to it. and yes, this is another paris scarf!

i also whipped up a headband that didn't quite turn out. the free pattern is here. the pattern link is on the left sidebar (free patterns). here is a shot of it after i tried to iron it really flat so it would lay better on my head (it still didn't work so now it is a very short, skinny scarf)

now i must find an airline safe project for my trip next week. and i'm sorry, i know i offended the wool gods by ironing it. not once, but twice! who irons wool? apparently i do.

I LOVE the post ironing version. It does have such a romantic air to it. PERFECT for Paris. And the Skinny scarf? Of COURSE you meant for it to be a scarf. It's a beatiful scarf. (Hey at least you had an option after it didn't work for your hair) - Oooh, is it long enough to be used as a belt?

I can't believe how different your ribbon scarf looks after ironing! It's beautiful! I have to do that to my next one. I've been meaning to try that head wrap thingy too. Cute!

Beautiful scarf! Now I want to make one! Romantic is definitely a good way to describe it. You will fit right in in fashionable Paris! I'm jealous!

wow, i feel bad now that i'm not doing any knitting for paris. i'm going to look like your average ugly american tourist ;)

i love the scarves and how they came out. so wendy's headband didn't work for you? that's one project i was interested in. my hair's getting long and unruly.

I iron everything, is that wrong? I figure as long as I put a cotton towel between the iron and the knit, I'm good to go. I haven't had a problem yet!

I love the ironed scarf, it's so pretty. I often use my iron on knits, but I usually just steam and press through a cloth. No problems so far.

Ironing the scarf was a brilliant idea! The result is beautiful - much better than the pre-ironing one! Also, I think the headband pattern makes a really cool scarf! Nice work!

Wayyy better after ironing; who says you can't iron wool? My iron even has a setting for it! ; )

I'd contemplated knitting that headband but wasn't sure how it would actually look on my head. . .so I'm glad you tried it out first! Haha. . .neat colorway, though!

Thank you for the link to the headband pattern! I'm going to Stitches for the first time, with the goal of seeing Koigu up close, and I know I'll want some but didn't have a project in mind. That stitch pattern would make a lovely scarf!

Did you feature a yummy looking french chocolate dessert in one of your entries? It reminded me a bit or flourless
chocolate cake. Could I ask you where you got the recipe.
You seem to be crazy about chocolate. I really like that in
a person. You can email me at b.marston@sbcglobal.net

Thank you,
Bobbe

I enjoy your site!
