bowled over
i know many will disagree, but i really don't like lamb's pride. i have tried it for several projects (mostly felted) and i can't stand the stuff! i think that when it is unfelted it is so fuzzy the little fibers fly about and make my nose itch and i feel like a cat just rubbed across my face. not to mention the itch factor. when you felt it the thing sheds like sasquatch in the washer. and oh the joy of having to give your felted project a shave after it is all dry because the fibers are long and yucky. ok, so why the rant all the sudden?

i finally made the felted bowls from one skein and i just don't like the way they turned out in the lamb's pride. too fuzzy and not substantial enough (maybe i should have carried two strands of the bulky?). i know it isn't really horrible. i just wasn't happy with them so i just have to pout.

i think i would have been happier if i had used my *fav* wool, cascasde 220. that stuff felts brilliantly!
ok, now that i have ticked off all the lamb's pride junkies out there, i'll go onto something else. ;)

another cupcake hat. this is what, the 4th? 5th? these things are a quick knit and fun to whip up.
i also finished branching out on friday. it needs a good blocking and then i will post pics. i have my lace socks STILL on the needles and a small bolster pillow for my new chair i got this weekend (ok, i got 2 chairs, a coffee table and nesting end tables! yeah for a furnished home!). for once something arrived early (they quoted 6-8 weeks, it took less than 4!). my hold everything order is about 5 months old. lovely.
ok, happy monday. i already wish it was friday.

Your cupcake hat is brilliant, with the sprinkles on it! So cute.
I like Cascade 220 better for felting, too. I think it's the mohair in Lamb's Pride which causes all of the mess.
i see what you mean about the lambs pride wool. it's really annoying when you work on something and then are not happy with the outcome.
how cute! your cupcake hat looks really gorgeous. Mmm i feel a little hungry now... :0)x
You know I thought I really liked Lambs Prise but you are making me reconsider. The only things I ever tried to felt were with Lambs Pride and they really did not work well (although I have a front loader, so I wasn't surprised). I am also not upset about your opinion in any way. In fact, you have simply informed me that Cascade 220 might be a much better choice and perhaps I too should try the felted bowls I have wanted to make so badly!
Thank you!!
I know what you mean about the lambs pride, I felt the same way. and the washer afterwards - YUCK! and it smells like wet dog,But all the wools smells like dog. But I started the bowls with a wool I bought from handpaintedyarns.com
I have yet to felt it, So im not sure whats gonna happen. I will post it as soon as im done. and then compare.
Here's to a quick Friday! I did my first (real) felting today. Love it, definitely will be felting more down the road!
I love those cupcake hats...too cute! I really want to make the cupcakes in one skein...among many other projects in there..
and the felted bowls...I definitely like the first one, can't really tell about the red one, but nonetheless...very cute!! I just bought my first cascade 220 and am excited to use some of it for just this project!
friday cannot get here fast enough..
.♥.
Hi Amy, this is Ellen from Village Yarn and Tea. Good news for you... I had a class tonight and was talking about your stitch markers. One student wants to buy 3 sets, another wants 4. I didn't find your ph# in the customer database, I thought I would try and reach you here. You can either email me directly, or stop in at the shop and I'll give details.
I'm excited for you!
I'll get strung up there with you - I've decided that I'm not the biggest fan of LPW either.
Which is unfortunate, because I've got a whole bunch of it that I've been using to make silly little critters, etc. And I am too cheap to just abandon it..
However, as I begin to use it up, I will be replacing with the Cascade 220. It just feels better to me, and none of those fibers sproinging out all over. You think you hate shaving a bowl? I feel the same way when a teddy bear needs a shave - so undignified for a wee bear!
Well, hey, at least it's Tuesday now! Sorry you had such a poor experience with Lamb's Pride. I'm with you on the Cascade 220. I made a felted bag with it and it's held up so well - no fuzzies! Have a great day Amy!
I think the bowls are adorable! You're right about the fuzziness of LP, but sometimes there are colors I want that lead me to LP over Cascade. I do use both, and you know I love some good felting!
Cute cupcake! I'm with you on yarn preference - I hate Lamb's Pride - itchy and fuzzy and bulky. Yuck. I adore Cascade 220, especially for felting!
The bowls look great. Too bad you don't like them.
The cupcake hat is too cute!
Everyone is entitled to have a yarn they hate. I've never tried Lamb's Pride but it's always rather tempting... So I'm squinting at the screen and I can't decide what your sprinkles are made of. Is it embroidery thread? Colored yarn? Yarn + beads? It's cute, in any case.
I love the cupcake! Where did you find it!
I use Cascade for felting...good stuff...plus it is decently priced.
Thanks for the Lamb's Pride tip off. I have been interested but have never purchased it. I won't bother now. I have a bunch of Cascade 220 that I have been meaning to use for about a year. Has anyone worked with the KnitPicks Wool of the Andes for felting? I ordered some for some to make slippers and am going to start tonight.....
I can't stand it! That cupcake hat is so flippin cute. LOVE the color combo. Of course, I have to make this!
hmm i wonder if i would look stupid being 33 and making myself one of those cupcake hats!
Love the cupcake and your cute sprinkles.
I love both Lamb's Pride *AND* Cascade 220 equally but the Cascade 220 felts very nicely with a SMOOTHER end product. Sometimes I want a fuzzier effect and that's when I reach for the Lamb's Pride. I really wouldn't want to live without either one!
WOW I love your felted bowls. I can't tell from the photos how big they are. Where did you get the pattern?
Great cupcake hat.. Your variation was MUCH better than the orignal.

i still love the little bowls! cute! but agree. i even tried plymouth's galway chunky and hated it!!!! i love cascade 220!!!
I think for a garment, the mohair is nice in LP's, it gives the wool a bit of a sheen and is supposed to help with less pilling. With felting, I'm not a huge fan either. I would work with Cascade myself as well. I don't like the idea of having to give a felted item a shave right after letting it dry! Just seems wrong!
Patons Classic merino Wool is nice to felt, and Noro too, but like you, I hate shaving my purses!!

Is there any chance of getting you to knit me a cupcake hat? I've been searching hi and low for one. If you'd be willing to sell me one please contact me at sweetmichelle15ATaolDOTcom
